The Geneva Bible 1560

The Geneva Bible was called the “study bible” because of the inclusion of material that aids studying it e.g. indexes, maps, tables and various other features.

This Bible was made during the reign of Queen Mary I (England). It was one of the Bibles brought to America on the Mayflower and it was used by famous people such as Shakespeare, Oliver Cromwell and John Milton.

This was the first mechanically printed Bible. The edition that we have here is the first full version that was printed in 1560.

This is provided copyright free and as such feel free to read it for spiritual benefit or to help others. It can be downloaded and distributed as to help others in the world.

Please be advised, that with all ancient texts, one must be careful and view it together with other editions/reprints (in case some text is lost or unreadable due to age etcetera). However, this does not reduce the pleasure of reading the original and ancient texts!

Please also be advised, that to ensure speedy download and reading, the Bible/book has been embedded (as Adobe pdf) – whilst it is downloading you will see a progress bar. However, before the download completes, if you scroll up or down, during this time, the page WILL look a bit weird. Wait till it downloads and all will be OK.

The Original Bible or book is below:

This Is Page Number:

If you do not see the book on this page it is probably because Google Docs has not loaded it. Please either refresh the page or change the page number and it should start to work.

      1. Thank you SO much! I’ve been looking for the copy with notes. And I can read it online, and hopefully download and print it on a larger paper (and bind it) than can probably be had by finding one with the maps and notes. They’re usually smaller than 8-1/2 x 11.

Either way, I love the Geneva with original spelling, got an app for my phone, and my phone died, got a new one.

They apparently don’t seem to offer original spelling Geneva Bible apps anymore, (they “fixed” it and “corrected”/modernized the spelling, and that ruins the Geneva). I was devastated, no it just loss of my notes, but the beloved Geneva itself (but it has no margin notes or maps, does have original spelling), until I found one can restore any purchased app for an iPhone, that’s by going through App Store or iTunes, I forgot which, and going to purchase history and clicking on it and restoring it.

The online reviews for any with maps seem to be too small or bad printing, so I’ll look one last time, and see about printing it off if necessary.

And now I have it in my phone, and can see all the notes and maps. Thank you so much for the link!

PS: Apparently online libraries like archive.org are endangered, some legal attacks to prevent us all from having them. And archive helps us prove pages that have been yanked down and denied ever existing. Let’s do our best to support them. There was a hearing today on it, I had planned to go one and participate (there was an option), but was unavoidably unable to. I’ll be checking in on it, however.

    1. To have the Geneva Bible – it’s better you buy the 1611 the 400 yr old bible which was Re-written from the Geneva Bible Gods exact spoken words as to how they talked back in to Ancient days. As I have one ,

  1. It still says the PAGAN NAME TITLES in it , and we are told NOT to let any other names of G-D pass our lips , SHAME .

  2. I am trying so very hard to download or order the complete Geneva Bible, to no avail. We need it for our upcoming Bible History class. Please help. Thank you much.

    1. I know it’s late for your class, and I don’t know if you saw this link, but it is an active link to read (and possibly download) the entire Geneva with maps and notes. A few pages are a bit crooked in scanning, but it’s all there. Thanks be to the poster who gave the link to us.

PS: Under current legal attack are out valuable, priceless online libraries and archives (which help us access and prove the existence of webpages of former censored/yanked down, or otherwise buried from search engine results, especially on the big G search engine, which I don’t use), such as those who expose and share unpopular truths about ungodly liars, and the ungodly liar’s sites themselves.

They are key to accessing what was once available on sites which no longer exist, either just for fun and personal enjoyment, or sometimes to access quite vital and obscure information, or further, at times, that which the establishment would otherwise prefer to keep from the population, such as that which exposes their true motives, and the connections from one organization to another, or their denial of past activities and media. They like to be able to scrub the internet, and archives don’t let them get away with that.

Such sites just today under legal attack, and archive.org has asked for participatory backup (weighing in; of course financial support can always help, but they primarily are asking for the people to be aware and speak up), to help defend the right to have these archives. More about that on their site.

  3. until recently as in 2023, I didn’t even know about the 1560 bible. why do churches fail or neglect to promote awareness of this translation? To discover such a treasure at 61 years of age is a thing.
