The Hebrew Bible In English – JPS (1917)in PDF

This is a personal favourite and hope it will be of much benefit to you!

This English translation of the Hebrew Old Testament is used around the world and is extremely popular.

The Official Title is The Holy Scriptures According to the Masoretic Text.

Please be advised, that with all ancient texts, one must be careful and view it together with other editions/reprints (in case some text is lost or unreadable due to age etcetera). However, this does not reduce the pleasure of reading the original and ancient texts!

Please also be advised, that to ensure speedy download and reading, the Bible/book has been embedded (as Adobe pdf) – whilst it is downloading you will see a progress bar. However, before the download completes, if you scroll up or down, during this time, the page WILL look a bit weird. Wait till it downloads and all will be OK.

The Original Bible or book is below:

(Sometimes the Bible/book does not load, just change the page number and then retry the original page or refresh the web page)

This Is Page Number:

If you do not see the book on this page it is probably because Google Docs has not loaded it. Please either refresh the page or change the page number and it should start to work.

    1. Hi,

There are many English translations of the Hebrew Bible. Most modern versions do use such…. Your desire is good but has many steps, Hebrew/Aramaic/Greek/Latin and a lot more…. I suggest you have a look at the history of the English translation(s).

    1. Hi,

This is the Jewish Publication Society’s translation of the Hebrew Bible and is recognised as an English Hebrew Bible.

If you need to download please see our Download a Bible page.

  1. I have written a book and would like to include all 1-150 Psalms. I would like to use The Hebrew Bible In English – JPS (1917). How do I go about gaining written permission for this Bible?

My book is at the publisher’s as we speak.

    1. Please the the Download a Bible page at the top – there might be a link in that page or you can request there.

  2. Hi i would like to know who is the name the person that translate the Bible and
    what was the guidelines.

    Thank you.

  3. I fully sympathize and understand this issue – if you look at the Download a Bible link at the top, you will see that one or more malicious humans or bots took the entire website down for close to a week. With great effort I proved it was malicious and have restored the site. But, excessive downloads, usage etc. are not ideal

I have restored the JPS link as it does mean a lot to me too! But please be advised that the link may be withdrawn if excessive usage does show! Download once and share to all from your side!

    Best wishes.

    1. There are a number of choices – you could go for this for OT or The Great Bible, Geneva Bible, KJV 1611 etc.
