Webster’s English Dictionary 1828 Volume 1 PDF

When reading English translations of the Bible it is often useful to use a dictionary from the time period of the text. We provide here the Webster English Dictionary from 1828.

Please be advised, that with all ancient texts, one must be careful and view it together with other editions/reprints (in case some text is lost or unreadable due to age etcetera). However, this does not reduce the pleasure of reading the original and ancient texts!

Please also be advised, that to ensure speedy download and reading, the Bible/book has been embedded (as Adobe pdf) – whilst it is downloading you will see a progress bar. However, before the download completes, if you scroll up or down, during this time, the page WILL look a bit weird. Wait till it downloads and all will be OK.

The Original Bible or book is below:

(Sometimes the Bible/book does not load, just change the page number and then retry the original page or refresh the web page)

This Is Page Number:

If you do not see the book on this page it is probably because Google Docs has not loaded it. Please either refresh the page or change the page number and it should start to work.

Index of the book (please forgive any unreadable bits: this index is computer generated from ancient texts):

  1. I get to 1.28G out of the 1.52G and it makes no further progress. It’s been almost 24 hours of waiting for it to complete. Any suggestions?

    1. Hi,

The download link is from another website that we do not own.

I would try downloading the PDF file again or contact them.

  2. That link does not go to the 1828 dictionary. It goes to a newer one. Here’s an idea: Offer torrent downloads. This type of distribution is a lower burden on your servers and not only allows rapid distribution, but people can host the torrents on other locations as well, leading to even more widespread accessibility.

    1. We already have heavy bandwidth and have considered such (not all people use torrents).

If you search for this on Google you should find the Wikipedia page – that has the archive links listed for both volumes.
