Masoretic Hebrew Bible – 1894

This is the Masoretic Critical Edition of 1894.

It is a full edition of over 1,800 pages.

This Bible is called a Masoretic text because it contains the vocalization and the accentuation – the Masorah.

This Masoretic tradition dates back to at least the 7th to 10th century AD.

The Hebrew Bible is written in a primarily consonant based system (the same as with modern Hebrew). The Masoretic texts add vowels and a lot more.

Whilst it is fairly easy to follow modern Hebrew, if one has been part of such a system for many years e.g. being born in Israel and going to school there, it can be hard to follow classical Hebrew (the language of the Hebrew texts) if one has not been part of such an upbringing. Unfortunately, such an upbringing has not existed for centuries (in a full sense) – so, a Hebrew Biblical text that does spell the words out 100% does help.

The Masoretic texts do spell out the words and provide a “punctuation system”. It may seem odd, in the 21st century, to mention such a simple matter, but that is what Biblical reading does involve. If there is ambiguity with a word (e.g. spelling with the Hebrew words, then alternative meanings are possible).

Please be advised, that with all ancient texts, one must be careful and view it together with other editions/reprints (in case some text is lost or unreadable due to age etcetera). However, this does not reduce the pleasure of reading the original and ancient texts!

Please also be advised, that to ensure speedy download and reading, the Bible/book has been embedded (as Adobe pdf) – whilst it is downloading you will see a progress bar. However, before the download completes, if you scroll up or down, during this time, the page WILL look a bit weird. Wait till it downloads and all will be OK.

The Original Bible or book is below:

If you do not see the book on this page it is probably because Google Docs has not loaded it. Please either refresh the page or change the page number and it should start to work.

  1. Hello,Thanks for available to HB’s readers and Christ’s followers this countless excellent material for study and meditation.God bless you profusely.

  2. The link doesn’t work. Do you have another link? Maybe just post a page that has all of the links to download instead of having to post links on each post?

  3. Do you know how I may get a copy of the KJV Bible (both New and Old Testaments) but in non-masoretic Hebrew?
